Farrell C. Thomas was born and raised in Greenville, South Carolina.  He received his Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education with a concentration in Earth Science from the University of South Carolina - Spartanburg, a Masters of Education (MEd) in Educational Leadership from Concordia University - Portland, and an Educational Specialist degree (EdS) from Arkansas State University.  Mr. Thomas has over 20 years in the field of education and high school athletics, to include being a bus driver, basketball coach, elementary school teacher, teacher mentor, instructional specialist, assistant director and principal.

 

As an elementary school teacher with over twelve years in the classroom, teaching predominately 5th grade science, he has also taught 3rd and 4th grade students. His classroom experience has allowed him to work in various school settings such as urban, rural, Title I schools, and a newly developed public charter school. During his tenure with Legacy Charter School, his leadership and coaching skills were developed, as he worked with school administrators and teachers as a trained TAP™ (The System for Teacher and Student Advancement) mentor.  In this position, he was able to transfer his years and experience as a state championship high school basketball coach into coaching and developing of teachers to help student engagement and achieve academic success. 

In 2015, after earning his Masters Degree in Educational Leadership, he transitioned to become an instructional specialist in the Greenwood District School 50. For the next three years in Greenwood 50, he served in this capacity, while also leading as the Assistant Director of the G. Frank Russell Technology School. His journey has created many opportunities and experiences that have been extremely valuable in his matriculation as a school leader. Currently, he serves as the principal of Waterloo Elementary School, in Waterloo, South Carolina, a small, rural school, in Laurens School District 55. He is a lifelong learner and enjoys the opportunity to be a positive influence in the lives of children every day. 

He is married to his beautiful wife, Regina Sitton-Thomas and is the father of four exceptional children; Lori (27), Farrell II (25), Frederic (23), and Fillip (16). He is also a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., an avid reader and world traveler.
