Teacher Recruitment and Retention
BOLD Leadership Consultants, LLC aim to support universities and school district's efforts to recruit and retain more diverse teachers.
According to the US Department of Education (2016), only 18 percent of public school teachers are individuals of color, even as nonwhite students now outnumber white students in U.S. public schools. Black male teachers are the most underrepresented group, with only 2 percent of teachers comprising this demographic. Teacher-retention rates are also higher for white teachers than for teachers of color.
A John Hopkins study (2017), research shows that having just one black educator in elementary school for black males may reduce the risk of dropping out by 39%. Black male educators matter for the aforementioned reasons as well as other significant ones.
